LBCC's Veterinary Assistant program is an accelerated shortterm training designed to provide students with the education and experience necessary for work in the veterinary field. Using a comprehensive approach that integrates labwork and clinical experience with classroom learning, this program trains students in common medical and surgical techniques, knowledge of animal diseases, and basic animal hospital management and business procedures. While the program mostly focuses on small animal species, information on larger animal species is provided whenever possible.
Individual class sessions are often taught by guest lecturers who specialize in certain areas. This program offers enviable training and experience, giving jobseeking students a competitive advantage over rival applicants when pursuing a position as a veterinary assistant. This program is held on the main LB campus in Albany, OR. The entire program lasts only 16 weeks, with the final four weeks spent working or observing in a veterinary clinic or hospital. Students should expect to devote 35 hours per week to this program.
